How to Write a Traditional Birth Announcement

Share the news of your child’s birth with loved ones through these handmade birth announcements.

Decide what type of card you want: folded or not; on cream or colored paper; with a pattern or plain; and so on. Order a few more than you think you’ll need.

Print or engrave the parents’ names, the baby’s date of birth, time of birth and weight, and any other desired information on the card.

List this information, or write it out in more formal style: "Mary and Joe Lee are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Emmanuelle, on the 31st day of January, 2000."

Print or engrave the baby’s full name on a smaller card. If you have twins, place both names on one card.

Tie the smaller card to the larger card with pink ribbon for a girl or blue ribbon for a boy. If you have boy and girl twins, use both pink and blue ribbon.

Send out cards no more than a month after mother and child are home from the hospital.
